TAGKF’s Roundtable Commends Ministry of Tourism’s Efforts, Presents Constructive Suggestions
30 Mar 2017 AMMAN - Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Knowledge Forum (TAGKF) organized a roundtable on the future of tourism with the participation of HRH Princess Dana Firas, HE Minister of Tourism Ms. Lina Annab, HE Akel Biltaji and HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh.The roundtable was also attended by heads of public and private tourism sectors, UNESCO representative to Jordan Ms. Costanza Farina, Russian Ambassador to Jordan HE Mr. Boris Bolotin, as well as representative of the USAID and a host of experts.
Attendees discussed the vital need to support and develop the tourism sector in Jordan and underlined several topics including: The establishment of an international center for smart tourism to be hosted and managed by TAGKF and commissioned by the UN-World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the need to introduce tourism education at schools, the importance of partnership with the private sector to manage the tourists facilities with special focus on infrastructure and logistics in addition to the role of local community, tourism policies, and pricing of tourism related products and services compared to neighboring countries … etc.
Participants suggested the following to achieve the objective of the meeting:
• Invite participants to join the Tourism Committee at TAGKF
• Assign this Committee to discuss proposals and suggestions and provide recommendations to the Ministry of Tourism, the Economic and Social Council and other stakeholders
• Cooperate with UNESCO and UN programs to further support the tourism sector
The meeting concluded by thanking all people in charge of maintaining security and stability in the country in response to the royal directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II as these two elements are the basic pillar for a tourism boom in the Kingdom.
