Abu-Ghazaleh Visits Al-Wehdat Camp, Establishes a Knowledge Station
30 May 2016AMMAN - May 30, 2016 - The Services Committee of Amman New Camp, locally known as Al-Wehdat Camp, organized a panel discussion on life blessed with sufferings under the patronage of HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, chairman of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAG-Org), on the anniversary of Al-Nakba.
The panel held at Amman New Camp’s main headquarters, with the presence of its Committee’s Advisory Board and a number of the camp’s elders and youth, and other representatives of civil organizations that work there.
Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh stressed that challenging and motivating oneself towards success starts as a personal decision, which is easily made, and not based on circumstance; indicating that through this decision, one can begin to transform their surroundings and suffering to motivate themselves in working towards excellence, success and victory.
Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh expressed his joy of the gathering arranged with the camp’s youth that reminds him of his childhood, which was the basis leading to his success. He addressed the youth with three main messages saying, “You must believe that you have rights, and you must have great confidence in this and in yourselves, and in thanking God for your blessings. Secondly, even with life’s difficulties, it is not the worst of cases as there are people who lack what has been provided to you. Finally, we are in Jordan, and God bless this country as a host for refugees compared to others where refugees are less fortunate.”
Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh’s success stories which sprung from living in a refugee camp was also conveyed, and how through suffering was motivated to work hard to excel and be distinguished among others in order to obtain a university scholarship; and in which he was motivated to work at a young age in various occupations to meet with different society sectors − jobs that included selling ice cream, working at the vegetable market, and music-record store, which opened the door for learning the origins of music and loving it.
Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh indicated that all of what he has accomplished up to date he owes to his parents, who constantly supported and encouraged him to learn and be distinguished among others; in addition to teaching him family responsibility – which ultimately formed his distinct character in pursing an education despite the far location of his school.
He encouraged students to take education seriously and aim for success, even at an early age; stressing on the importance of Information Technology that has become the new method for learning and in enabling anyone to acquire degrees. Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh indicated that TAG-Org works in providing educational services and university degrees for Syrian refugees in camps, pointing out that there should be no circumstance or barriers that prevent any human from developing their skills and capabilities.
Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh announced the establishment of a new Knowledge station in the Camp’s headquarters for its students to benefit from, and which will be equipped with the needed facilities, and provided Internet that will be accessible for all free of charge. He also announced the launching of a competition for the best UNRWA school, in which the top winners will be announced in June 2016 and will be awarded with computers.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mohammed Ghannam, President of the Services Committee of the Amman New Camp, conveyed his gratitude to Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh, pointing out that his visit is an inspiration to the camp’s youth who feel as privileged as other Jordanian citizens thanks to the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II Bin Al Hussein.
At the end of the event, Mr. Ghannam presented Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh with a shield for his visit to the camp’s headquarter building.
