Arab accountancy group takes shape
09 Oct 1983A GROUP of 28 leading Arab accountants is to set up a professional body, the Arab
Society of Certified Accountants.
The group, drawn from local and international firms has laid down the principles on which the society will operate and elected a council to draw up a constitution.
The society will be the first accountancy body in the Arab world to have an examining function. Previous attempts to set up a professional body have foundered because of the lack of this capability.
The first president of the society is to be Talal Abu-Ghazaleh of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh International, the largest Arab accountancy firm in the Middle East.
