Accountants call for adaptation
31 Jan 1984AUDIT practices in the Arab world require standardizationand modernization, and there is a great need to adapt Western standards to the particular needs of Arab economics, the president of the newly-formed Arab Society of Certified Accountants (ASCA), Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, said following a meeting of the ASCA council in Kuwait.
He also said that the support received from Arab governments showed the new pan-Arab accounting both was both important and needed.
Eight council members met Kuwait’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, Jassim Al-Marzouk, and the president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Abdul Azir Al Sager.
The first meeting of the council was also attended by the ASCA special adviser Professor John Small.

Dr. Issam Merei, a senior consultant working on accounting and auditing standards in the US, was appointed secretary- general.
The ASCA was incorporated in London on Jan 12. and its executive director there is a distinguished Arabist and former British Ambassador to Algeria, Ben Strachan.
