Arab accountants meet in Kuwait
31 Jan 1984“THE tremendous support that we are receiving from various governments in the Arab world indicates that the new Pan-Arab Accounting body is both important and needed,”
said Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, president of the Arab Society of Certified Accountants (ASCA) following a council meeting in Kuwait this weekend.
The council of eight met with the Minister of Trade and Industry Jassim Al-Marzouk. Abu-Ghazaleh said that they discussed the formulation of plans for the society projects and activities in the next several months, and they were encouraged by the interest shown by the minister.
The council also visited with Abdul Aziz Al Sager, the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, who provided the council with his guidance emphasizing the need for the society and the importance of the ethical standards in the conduct of the profession.
“There is a tremendous need for standardization and modernization of the audit practices in the Arab world. We continue to look to the West but then is a critical need to adapt those standards to fit the peculiar needs of our national economies”, the society president said.
The council announced that the society had completed incorporation procedures and was officially registered as a London entity as of Jan. 12.
