Towards E-Lebanon Conference: Reaching International Internet

Opening tomorrow morning at 8:30am at the Phoenicia Inter-Continental Hotel and under the patronage of President Emile Lahoud, will be the “Towards E-Lebanon” conference, which will be held over a period of two days.
The conference is being organized as a collaboration between the Bank of Lebanon and Talal Abu-Ghazaleh and Co. International (TAGI), and with the participation of international and local experts in the field of electronic business. It is to be attended by delegations from the world of banking and business, international organizations working in Lebanon, diplomats from embassies in the country, officials and managers in telecommunications and information companies, deans of colleges, and Lebanese and foreign university students and professors.
 
The opening session will include a speech by President Lahoud and the Governor of the Bank of Lebanon Riyad Salameh, in addition to a speech by the first Deputy Governor Nasser Al-Saidi. Also, on behalf of the UN Information and Communication Technologies Task Force (UN ICT TF), Mr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh will deliver a speech as well.
 
The conference sessions will include a comprehensive discussion on a strategy for an electronic policy in Lebanon and the preparedness of the public sector network (related to electronic government) and the private sector network including electronic banking operations, e-commerce, electronic aggregates and electronic media.
 
The conference will also deal with the issue of the electronic society and reaching the ideal international internet. Throughout the consecutive sessions, conference attendees will address the strategy and initiatives of the office of the Minister of State for Administrative Reform in this field. Other issues that will be raised are the Arab strategy relating to Arab and international website names and the activities of the Arab Regional Network of the UN ICT TF.
 
Coinciding with the conference, a meeting for the Arab Regional Network of the UN ICT TF will be held under the chairmanship of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, who will talk about the network’s accomplishments during the past couple of years and the relations with other networks worldwide.
