Seminar on Security Policies and Issues in IT

The UN Institute for Training and Research convened a seminar the day before yesterday on Security Policies and Issues in IT, at the UN headquarters in New York.
 
Mr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, Vice-Chair of the United Nations Information and Communication Technologies Task Force (UN ICT TF), delivered the opening speech of the seminar and then distributed certificates among the participating ambassadors and UN diplomats including Arab ambassadors and diplomats.
 
The seminar addressed researching national strategies and the frameworks of policies specific to simplifying the development of the IT and communications process, and tying these policies and strategies to the rule of international law relating to individual and community rights in the age of computing.
 
Dialogue focused in particular on the legislative and governmental challenges facing policy-makers relating to privacy rights, freedom of speech and expression, in addition to freedom of access and globalization, in relation to the protection of cultural specifics and national variety.
 
The seminar also discussed the Chilean initiatives in the area of electronic government and providing services to citizens via the internet, in addition to educating them on how to benefit from services and facilitating the economic growth process.
 

Alvaro Diaze, the deputy at the Chilean Ministry of Economy, presented the challenges, achievements, partnerships and lessons-learned, in addition to talking about expanding national electronic strategies into regional strategies and projects.
