With Broad Arab and International Participation: The Fifth Atlas International Conference Discusses Significance of Electronic Dictionaries in Education
15 Dec 2005AMMAN – The activities of the Fifth Atlas International Conference on language and translation will begin next Sunday under the title “Contemporary Issues in Translation and Arabization”, with the participation of Jordan, Lebanon, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Germany and Switzerland, at the Zarqa Public University.
The conference – which is being organized by the Atlas Global Center for Studies and Research and held over a two-day period – will discuss a research paper on the problems facing the translation and Arabization processes, within the framework of Arab language societies.
The Chairman of the Atlas Group, Mr. Ghassan Alzeeb, said the fifth conference being convened this year in Jordan with Arab and international participation, will address on the first day the decisions of Arab language societies and societies dealing with Arabization of the sciences in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the role of dual-language dictionaries that the Atlas Group presents and the extent of their contribution to supporting educational issues in the Arab world.
Mr. Alzeeb emphasized the significance of the conferences organized by the Atlas Global Center for Studies and Research, pointing out that the Center decided to convene its annual conference in an Arab capital every year. He stated that this widened the interest in translated language, as the conference researches the new ongoing issues yearly in the world of language and translation.
The Chairman of the Atlas Group said that the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAGorg) will present a series of experiences and challenges in the translation profession on the second day of the conference, in addition to conducting a comparison between three contemporary translations of the Holy Quran into the French language, and teaching translation at Arab universities.
On his part, the head of the preparatory committee of the conference and General Manager of the Atlas Center Dr. Suleiman Alabbas said that Dr. Hanilor Lyanki from the University of Geneva and Dr. Martin Forcenter from Minz University in Germany, will both be participating in the event.
Numerous professors from Arab universities will be participating as well. Additionally, Mr. Abdul Mouti Alsurour will be participating on behalf of TAGorg.
Dr. Alabbas said that a team from the translation school at the University of St. Joseph in Lebanon will present a model for Arabic language teaching curricula for non-native speakers.
