22 Jul 2006
In a solid move aimed at protecting Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) in the region, Abu-Ghazaleh Legal, a global business law firm with 52 offices around the world, and Jordan Anti-Piracy Alliance (JAPA), a professional Intellectual Property market survey service company signed a multi-cooperation agreement on July 4, 2006 in Amman.
The agreement is intended to build up cooperation and strengthen efforts between the two parties in their quest to study and protect IPRs in the regional markets.

Executive Director of the Regional Office of Abu-Ghazaleh Legal, Mr. Samer Pharaon, and Director General of JAPA, Mr. Hani Dalqamoni, signed the agreement.

Under the terms of the agreement, both parties will ensure that local and regional markets are intensively searched for original and counterfeit marks. In case any imitated marks are found, a legal action will be initiated to stop any related trademark infringement and prevent the spread of counterfeit marks in these markets.

The agreement will formulate methods and mechanisms to protect consumers, prevent commercial fraud, and guarantee citizens' health and safety.

"The signing of this agreement manifests both parties' unwavering commitment to strengthen and improve Intellectual Property protection in Jordan and worldwide," said Mr. Pharaon.

"Enhancing Intellectual Property infrastructure will create a competitive climate for investment in Jordan and this will contribute to the economic, social, and cultural development," he added.

Abu-Ghazaleh Legal, which falls under the umbrella of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAGorg), employs more than 400 lawyers and professionals in its offices in the Middle East, Europe, North America, South America, Africa, and Asia. It provides a broad range of business law practices and legal consulting services to clients from around the world.
