After Election of a New Body of Administrators, Intaj Presents the New Strategy to the King Next Month
06 Feb 2007AMMAN – The Information Technology Association – Jordan (intaj) has elected a new administrative body for the years 2007-2009, which is comprised of eleven members.
An official source at intaj told Addustour that the new administrative body will present to the King the new national strategy for the information technology and communications sector that it had launched at the Forum for Communications and Information Technology, approximately one month from now, after which it will begin its execution.
Further, the new body will define the appropriate frameworks and assignments of concerned parties in the sector in order to execute the new strategy.
Mr. Marwan Juma’a, the Executive President of the Express Co. was elected as Chair of the administrators’ body, with Mr. Jawad Abbasi –President of the “Arab Guides” group- elected as Vice-Chair, Mr. Daoud Abboud from UTS as Treasurer and Mr. Hanna Zaghloul from Ideal Systems as Secretary.
The new elected body includes Mr. Mikhail Ghossein, the Executive President of the Jordan Telecommunications Group, Mr. Mustafa Nassereddin from Talal Abu-Ghazaleh and Co. Consulting and Mr. Hazem Melhas from the Fares National Group for Investment and Export.
Juma’a emphasized that one of the most important tasks for the new administration is working for the progress of the IT and communications sector and advancing it to the highest levels possible, while placing Jordan on the international map in this domain.
The new strategy itself emerged after numerous recommendations were considered, the most important of which was finding adequate methods to increase dependency on the internet, to proliferate its use in light of factors such as government implementation of the new e-government program, the increase of the number of graduates able to use the internet and the introduction of new services that are consistent with various citizens’ needs.
It should be noted that the new strategy appeared after a meeting between King Abdullah the Second and high-level officials from the private sector last April, in which the latest developments and requirements of the Jordanian telecommunications and IT sector were discussed. The King recommended putting a strategy in place that adheres to specific deadlines to be followed by relevant parties, in order to achieve desired results.
