LES-AC Launches “Arab Certified IP Licensing Practitioner” Program

AMMAN - The Licensing Executives Society - Arab Countries (LES-AC) will be holding the "Fundamentals of Intellectual Asset Management" course; part of the "Arab Certified Intellectual Property (IP) Licensing Practitioner" (ACIPLP) Certificate April 14-17, 2007 at the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh College of Business (TAGCB) headquarters in Amman.
 
ACIPLP is a new educational program designed to graduate Executive IP Licensing Practitioners, and to raise the level of knowledge and skills for those whose daily responsibilities include any aspect of Licensing and technology transfer, such as: lawyers, financial and business development professionals, intellectual asset managers, and team members in all industries.
 
The "ACIPLP" program was developed by the most successful practitioners in the licensing Executives Society International (LESI); the world's preeminent society specialized in Licensing. A group of LES-AC members has reviewed, translated and developed the curriculum to go with the laws in the Arab Countries.
 
A Certificate of “Arab Certified Intellectual Property Licensing Practitioner” (ACIPLP) will be awarded to those who participate in the program's three levels.
 
The Fundamentals level is an intensive 32-hour training that provides participants with basic information in respect of the foundation of the entire program. Fundamentals of Intellectual Asset Management level is comprised of three major topics:
 
The Basics of Intellectual Property and Licensing (including language and principle), Filing and Managing the Portfolio (including planning, technology transfer criteria and strategies), and The Deal and Living the Deal (including pre-valuation & tax issues, valuation methods & negotiation techniques & principles, post agreement relationship & compliance and the process of managing intellectual assets).
 
These foundational courses are prerequisites for the intermediate level courses in the "ACIPLP" program. Participants receive a Certificate of “Fundamentals of Intellectual Asset Management and Licensing” after completing and attending the Fundamental course.
 
After completing Fundamentals, students will be able to:
 • Use the fundamental language of intellectual property and licensing.
 • Identify basic legal issues.
 • Understand how to develop an intellectual asset management process.
 • Participate in analyzing and assessing the portfolio of intellectual assets.
 • Understand how technologies are valued.
 • Recognize and use successful strategies for negotiating and closing a deal.
  • Understand the business factors that contribute to successful agreement.
 
The Licensing Executives Society – Arab Countries (LES-AC) is a non-profit organization that aims at enhancing the knowledge of the business community in respect of the economic importance of licensing, the protection of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs), and R&D investment.
 
Since its establishment, the Society had worked hard to join the Licensing Executives Society International (LESI) in order to acquire international attribute through its membership in a specialized international society. The Society joined LESI in 1998. LESI is considered to be the mother organization, which is a non-profit society that seeks to make international efforts in the field of licensing and technology transfer.  This international society comprises thirty one national and regional societies including LES-AC.
