Filing of Trademark and Industrial Design Applications Ceases in Syria

DAMASCUS - Filing of trademark and industrial design applications in Syria ceased on March 25, 2007, as per a decision by the Syrian Trademark Office, a Sunday press release by Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) stated.
 
Renewal and recordal applications are excluded from this cessation.
 
The cessation will apply until the new Law No. 8 of 2007, for Distinctive Marks, Geographical Indications and Industrial Designs and Models, enters into force on April 12, 2007.
 
The law was issued by the Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad on March 12, 2007.
 
In the meantime, the Trademark Office will be engaged in overhauling relevant administrative measures.
