TAGorg’s Internet Affairs Manager Elected to the GNSO Council

AMMAN - Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization’s (TAGorg) Internet Affairs Manager, Bilal Beiram, was elected to the Council of the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) on October 9, 2007, for the two-year term October 2007-2009, a press release by   Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) stated.
 
The GNSO is the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers’ (ICANN) body which is responsible for developing and recommending to the ICANN Board substantive policies relating to generic top-level domains (gTLD).
 
Representing the Asia Pacific region, Beiram joins two other members from Europe and North America in the Commercial and Business Users Constituency which is one of the six constituencies that form the GNSO. The other five constituencies are: gTLD Registries, Internet Service and Connection Providers, Non-Commercial Users, Registrars and Intellectual Property Interests.
 
According to Beiram, the GNSO Council members will be involved in the promotion of the development of Internet policies and the encouragement of diverse and international participation in the technical management of the Internet.
 
“Leading a policy development process for WHOIS Working Group and the IDNs Working Group is among the top priorities on the GNSO’s agenda for this term,” he said.
 
The Commercial and Business Users Constituency represents customers of providers of connectivity, domain names, IP addresses, protocols and other services related to electronic commerce in its broad sense.
