AMMAN-------September 18, 2012------ The Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Business Forum hosted an exciting seminar entitled "Social Entrepreneurship: A Scope" focused on the role of young entrepreneurs in helping the society through various initiatives.
Rabee Zureikat, founder of Zikra Initiative, a modern-day treasure hunt initiative on an adventure to discover communities’ hidden gems that may be exchanged to trigger organic sustainable development, provided a comprehensive view of the work of the society through Zikra which concentrated on people’s strengths, skills, and heritage to create an equal and fair relationship for social development.
Zureikat was deeply moved by the struggle of the Ghor al Mazra’a community in the governorate of Al Karak and decided to launch the Zikra Initiative to reach out to this estranged community through a traditional charity drive.
Zureikat said:"I was amazed by the richness of lifestyle the Ghor al Mazra’a community had and I decided to work on the positive aspects of this community and it worked."
The Zikra Initiative replaced and transformed the charity drive experience with the philosophy of ‘exchange,’ or, the act of giving one thing and receiving another in return. The ‘exchange’ experience eliminates the giver-receiver dynamic and replaces it with an ‘equal’ and fair relationship in which both the giver and the receiver gain new skills and resources.
Meanwhile, Ali Dahmash, founder of Under My Olive Tree; a non-profit initiative that promotes social activism, volunteering and sustainable projects in less privileged areas in Jordan, said that life in some areas in the Kingdom worth a second look.
"We have been working with people with various problems by focusing on their talent and so far we were successful in bringing out the best despite poverty, family tragedies and violence," he said.
Dahmash cited an example how a married woman who was beaten by her husband and lost one eye, was able to prove to the society that she can make it beautifully with her handcrafts and jewelry designs.
Mr. Laith Al Qasem, chairman of Arabian Business Consultants for Development moderated the seminar saying that these young talents can help make the world a better place.
