Abu-Ghazaleh: Media to Integrate in the Knowledge Age, while the West Blunders within Arab New Transformations
KUWAIT----May 28, 2012---- Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, chairman of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAG-Org) stressed in his speech at the 9th Arab Media Forum held in Kuwait that in the Knowledge Era Media will integrate in the knowledge concept and all communications will also merge while the media sector will be known as knowledge.
In his keynote speech at the Forum held in Kuwait under the theme the future of the Arab and Western Relations under the political changes, Abu-Ghazaleh expressed his gratitude to HH Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Prime Minister of State of Kuwait and to Kuwait Minister of Information Sheikh Mohammad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah and to Mr. Madi Khamees, general secretary of the Arab Media Forum for honoring him with the Arab Award for Media Creativity and promoting him to a "journalist."
Abu-Ghazaleh blamed the Arab media for not giving the economy the same importance given to other sectors as art, sports and others. He also objected the use of the expression "Arab Spring" stating that what is really happening is a renaissance similar to the European one which lasted for decades until it achieved its objectives.
Abu-Ghazaleh focused on the economic dimension in the media saying that the West struggles in the midst of the Arab changes, as there is no single stance for these countries, as interests vary, while the Arab states take different positions on the basis of their interests in light of the economic crisis the West confronts, which will increase in difficulty, and force them to search for new markets.
He added that our markets are a target for exporting countries and a source of wealth stating that countries that do not constitute an important market and not a source of surpluses will be become political tools for economic purposes.
He said that the West is facing a complex of its affiliation with previous systems (regimes?), and is in a dilemma whether to abandon them and be accused of disloyalty or remain faithful and lose the future.
He added that the Israeli complex will remain the problem in the Western relations because unfortunately it is the only unchangeable issue in the Western policy.
He concluded that Arab countries and due to the changes are suffering from fragmentation which makes them in weak negotiation position.
It is worth noting that the Arab Media Forum was established as an initiative in 2003 with the aim of creating a strategic Arab media environment. The ninth session of the Arab Media Forum, themed “The Arab Media Spring,” was held under the patronization of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.
