Bahraini Minister of Culture Invites Head of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh University of Bahrain to ARC-WH Launch

MANAMA --- March 18, 2012 --- HE Sheikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, Bahraini Minister of Culture invited Dr. Abdul Waheed Khan, president of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh University of Bahrain (TAGUB) to attend the official opening ceremony of the Arab Regional Center for Global Heritage (ARC-WH).

The Center will be inaugurated in April a month dedicated to the" Heritage" theme as part of the events celebrating Manama as Capital of the Arab Culture 2012.

Dr. Khan highly commended the cultural movement in Bahrain which highlights the depth of civilization in the Kingdom stressing that the selection of Bahrain to host this Center by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is attributed to the Kingdom’s obvious concern of the culture and heritage issues.

In February 2010, two official agreements were signed at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France to establish new Category 2 Centers dedicated to World Heritage preservation. The African World Heritage Fund (AWHF) and the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage (ARC-WH), to be established respectively in South Africa and Bahrain and operated under the auspices of UNESCO, are both dedicated to reinforcing the effective conservation and protection of natural and cultural heritage and to improving the implementation of the World Heritage Convention in their respective States Parties.
