Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property Organizes ‘Legal Protection of Trademarks’ Workshop
16 May 2025
AMMAN – Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP), a member of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global Digital (TAG.GD), has organized a workshop entitled “Legal Protection of Trademarks” under the patronage of HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, TAG.GD founder and chairman.
The workshop was organized as part of TAG.GD’s commitment to public-private sector partnership, as well as raising awareness about trademark infringements and their protection. This is in addition to facilitating the efforts of government entities and departments on combating counterfeiting and trademark infringement as well as protecting consumers and the local community. Additionally, the workshop reflects AGIP’s vital corporate responsibility in protecting intellectual property rights, highlighting the regulatory role of government bodies involved in anti-counterfeit efforts.
In this context, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh emphasized the significance of protecting intellectual property, especially in today’s knowledge era, pointing out that intellectual property and knowledge are interconnected. He further stated that the drive of today’s wealth lies in trademarks, tradenames, and patents.
Moreover, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh pointed out that the actual value of his wealth comprises of the tradename of TAG.GD, which was valued several years ago by a specialized institution by around USD 3 to 5 billion; an amount that enormously exceeds the company’s tangible assets. This valuation, he explained, underscores the profound impact on trademarks, tradenames, and intellectual property rights in the era of knowledge revolution.
Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh also mentioned that his career journey in the field of intellectual property dates back to 1964, and the field of information technology in 1965; two fields that have since emerged as cornerstones of the modern global economy. He went on to pointing out that this early involvement played a vital role in enabling AGIP to positively expand its outreach internationally to become the world’s leading firm in intellectual property.
The workshop, held at the
Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Knowledge Forum headquarters, was attended by
representatives from the Jordan Customs Department, the Criminal Investigation
Department, and the Jordan Food and Drug Administration.
It is worth mentioning that
the workshop addressed mechanisms of raising awareness on trademark protection
and it examined the various technical and procedural dimensions of goods
inspection. This aimed to assist regulatory government personnel, especially
those in the Customs Department and Anti-smuggling Directorate, in effectively
distinguishing between genuine and counterfeit products. At the same time, it
maximizes protection at Jordan’s borders and markets, and preventing
counterfeit imports from entering the country.
At the end of the workshop, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh presented honorary shields to several institutions and government departments in recognition of their efforts in protecting intellectual property rights on a national scale.
