13 Jun 2016

AMMAN - June 13, 2016 - In cooperation with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh announced his willingness to provide a number of service projects to the youth and student residents of Amman New Camp, known as Al Wehdat Camp, to help them obtain the best skills and experience to compete favorably in the labor market.

During a ceremony organized by UNRWA at Al Wehdat Camp Service Committee Hall, the winners of "the best school and the best class" competition were announced.

The ceremony was held in the presence of UNRWA Operations Director Mr. Roger Davies, and Al Wehdat District Manager Mr. Moyyad Ahmad, in addition to a number of officials and representatives of government bodies and organizations operating in the camp as well as the residents of the area.

HE Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh stressed in a speech delivered on his behalf by Mr. Tariq Hammad, executive director of TAG-Foundation, that these cooperation projects aim to support distinguished student children, as he himself was a student of one of UNRWA’s schools, assuring that other projects will follow to serve other areas.

“The projects include the establishment of two knowledge stations; one at the UNRWA School and the other in the Camp area adjacent to the school, in order to serve the residents by providing tools of knowledge to anyone who needs to proceed with his education and self-development. Moreover, a language club will be established to teach French, Italian, English and Chinese; several training courses will be offered for school and university students to provide them with the knowledge and experience required to enter and compete in the labor market. In addition, a fund will be established to support small enterprises with the view of encouraging young entrepreneurs."

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh confirmed his intention to hold meetings that bring together the youth with self-made businessmen who single-handedly established their businesses in order to learn from their success stories as a form of motivation.

Other cooperation fields include connecting local school students with students from abroad and setting up the twining between local and foreign schools for the exchange of culture and knowledge. These fields also include conducting training courses that link the youth to the local labor market, and contribute in transferring successful experiences from and to the youth inside and outside the Kingdom. Moreover, the cooperation also seeks the establishment of partnerships that address social responsibility to ensure service improvement and sustainability in the area.

During the ceremony, awards, including computers, provided by Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh, were granted to winning schools and students to support educational development.
