TAG- Confucius and Shenyang University Sign Agreement to Establish 'Silk Road' Center

AMMAN ----- April 28, 2011----- Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Confucius Institute (TAG- Confucius) and the Chinese Shenyang University signed on April 21, 2011 a cooperation agreement to establish the “Silk Road” Center to teach and promote Arabic language and culture in China. The agreement was signed in the annual meeting of the Institute’s Board.

by Mr. Luay Abu-Ghazaleh, vice-chair of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAG-Org) and chairman of TAG- Confucius Board/Amman, and Mr. Zhang Hui, vice president of Shenyang University and vice president of the Institute Board.

The agreement stipulates to establish a specialized center to teach the Arabic language to non-Arabic speakers in its headquarters in Shenyang University, and give training courses in Arabic language as part of the cultural exchange between Arabs and Chinese which began with the establishment of TAG- Confucius in Amman by TAG-Org.

In the annual meeting, a discussion was held to increase the number of the distinguished students benefiting from the scholarships to China who pursue intensive study of the Chinese language after meeting the requirements in Jordan in addition to arranging students’ summer camps in Shenyang University for the year 2011.

Mr. Luay Abu-Ghazaleh expressed his deep appreciation to the efforts which will open the door for more ways of cooperation and coordination. Moreover, TAG-Org intends to open branches for TAG- Confucius in other countries of the region.

Mr. Zhang Hui demonstrated his content to the progress of the Institute and the environment provided by TAG- Confucius to teach Chinese, and in particular the advanced technologies employed in teaching and introducing the Chinese culture.

It should be noted that an agreement was signed in September 2008 between TAG-Org and Hanban Organization, the executive body of the Chinese Language Council International, affiliated to the Ministry of Education of China, to establish the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Confucius Institute (TAG- Confucius) in Amman.

Shenyang University was established in 1951. It is affiliated to the Ministry of Education of China. It is of the oldest and most known universities in China. It has the priority in development among the Chinese universities.
