International Conference on International Accounting Standards

17 Nov 1994
AMMAN – The Talal Abu-Ghazaleh International (TAGI) Group and the Arab Society of Certified Accountants (ASCA), in collaboration with Infocenter-Dubai, are organizing a global conference on international accounting standards in Dubai, UAE, during November 18-20, 1994.

Participating in the deliverance of lectures will be an elite group of Arab and foreign accounting experts, led by Mr. David Kernz, Chairman of the Education Committee at the International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC), in addition to the Chairman of the Education Committee at the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). Additionally, ASCA and TAGI Chairman Mr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh will participate in the conference, along with other ASCA directors, members of international bodies and numerous secretary-generals of Arab audit bureaus.

The conference – which will be held in the form of work sessions-, will address a number of significant topics relating to the implementation of international accounting standards.

Mr. Abu-Ghazaleh stated that the convention of this conference “addresses the dire need witnessed by our Arab region to implement international accounting and auditing standards as a result of the expansion of foreign investments in Arab states.” The need has also risen in order for the standards used to be compatible with what may result from the signing of the GATT agreement and the start of its implementation next year, and what may result in terms of the necessity to unify accounting mechanisms in various areas, according to Abu-Ghazaleh.

Mr. Abu-Ghazaleh said that the adoption of such standards will be compatible with the Arab region’s need to be privy to global trends in this field, so that investors and Arab businesspeople can prepare themselves to deal with the new reality that will be imposed through the changes resulting from the GATT implementation.
