Abu-Ghazaleh Heads the ICC delegation

The meeting aimed at defining a trade regime that facilitates Telecom Competition and E-Commerce. Among the topics discussed by the ICC delegation was presentations on key policy issues that need further clarity or completion, business views and experiences, and reviews of business recommendations prepared by consensus of global business; clarification of services under the existing international classification schemes such as those used in GATS schedules to accommodate technological progress in the delivery in services; classification of digital products to receive trade treatment that is no less favorable than the historical treatment applied to the underlying good, service, or intellectual property; and ICC member views and experiences regarding the appropriate liberalization and competition in emerging markets (such as Hungry, India, and Pakistan) who are considered to be essential factors for economic growth and development.
The ICC delegation stressed on the business needs for an open and competitive market for electronics and no barriers to the development of the e-commerce infrastructure.
The ICC delegation included also Mr. Joseph Alhadeff, Vice President of the Global Public Policy-Oracle, Mr. Casba Bazso, the Secretary General of the Budapest Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Christopher Kuner, Partner in Hunton & Williams, Mr. Claudio Murri, Director of the Government Affairs of EMEA-EDS, Mrs. Pascale Prudhomme, the Vice Chair of ICC Thailand, Mr. Philippe Wintrebert, the Vice President of the International Public Affairs of AT &T and, Mr. Dominique Wurges of France Telecom.
The delegation provided the Directors of the WTO Divisions with copies of the EBITT Factsheet, ICC's strategic objectives for multilateral trade negotiations to ensure a trade regime that facilitates competition in telecommunications and e-business, ICC policy statement on the Liberalization of Advertisement services, ICC trade agreements and the Multilateral Trade System, a copy of the ICC 2003 Program of Action, and a page summary of the ICC's Commission's projects for 2003.
