ASCA Convenes Annual Meeting in Beirut
25 Apr 2003BEIRUT - The Lebanese capital of Beirut will be hosting the annual meeting for the Arab Society of Certified Accountants (ASCA), as the general assembly and the ASCA Board of Directors will convene, under the patronage of the Lebanese Finance Minister Mr. Fouad Siniora, and under the chairmanship of Mr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, Chairman of ASCA. The event will take place on Friday April 25, 2003.
The meetings will discuss and evaluate ASCA’s accomplishments since 1993 till the end of the year of 2002, in addition to discussing and deciding on an action plan for the upcoming period. This is to include training courses, seminars, and enhancing cooperation with universities in Arab countries. The meetings will also study and put a program in place for the Fifth Arab International Accountancy Conference.
Also as a result of these meetings, tax laws, ‘Zakat’ laws and laws related to companies and trade will be published through the ASCA website. Additionally, questions and answers for qualification exams of previous years will be published on the site so that students can utilize these for guidance, as can the ASCA members and students of accounting in Arab universities and colleges.
The participants will discuss the issue of enhancing technical and professional agreements that ASCA made with numerous educational institutions in Arab states. The estimated budget for the year 2003 will be reviewed and the Board of Directors will present a report on the society’s activities till the end of the fiscal year ending December 31, 2002. ASCA was established in 1984 and includes a large number of pioneers in the accounting discipline in the Arab world. It aims to advance the profession, contribute to economic and social growth in the Arab world, and qualify Arab accountants through international examinations.
