During ASIP Conference, Alaridi: America Trespassed Concept of Globalization

29 Apr 2003
The Minister of Culture Ghazi Alaridi has stated that there is an American trespassing to the concept of globalization and the WTO and essentially an overthrow of them. He talked about the fears relating to the UN’s role, and said that after the war on Iraq, security, stability and peace worldwide have become threatened.

He emphasized the rights of peoples to choose what they saw fit in relation to systems, cultures, heritage and civilization. He stressed the need to respect intellectual property (IP) and preserve the well-being of scientists and intellectuals. Alaridi stated that science and technological development aren’t a monopoly for anyone.

In his speech, he stressed the “violation of political and commercial secrets by an administration that controls the world”, adding that there is “current corruption within the major global corporations.” He considered that “there is no chance to talk about IP in light of the existence of a system prevalent with corruption and the absence of transparency.”

Minister Alaridi’s statements came during a signing by the Arab Society for Intellectual Property (ASIP) with the Sader Publishing House on international publishing contracts at the financial headquarters of the publishing institute. These contracts include the Encyclopedia for Arab Laws and Rulings on IP and the Abu-Ghazaleh IP Dictionary. The event took place in the presence of the Arab Society for Intellectual Property (ASIP) Chairman Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, Chairman of the Sader Publishing House Mr. Joseph Sader.

Alaridi said: “Today’s meeting on IP is quite significant in my opinion, especially since I reviewed the objectives and accomplishments in the appendix distributed before the meeting by ASIP, and what we can achieve.
There are numerous issues presented that I believe require much discussion, research and review.”
