Hamada: We Seek to Energize IP Protection Process and to Fight Piracy
29 Apr 2003The Minister of Economy and Commerce Mr. Marwan Hamada has pointed put that the Ministry of Economy and Commerce seeks to energize the intellectual property protection process in both its literary and industrial aspects, and fight piracy, especially since Lebanon is concerned with joining the World Trade Organization.
Hamada said at the opening for the meetings of the board of directors and general assembly of the Licensing Executives Societies – Arab Countries (LES-AC) in Beirut that the licensing process acquires exceptional interest at the start of the third millenium, especially since it has become the supposed bridge that needs to be crossed by developing countries to pass the widening gap that separates them from nations already developed technologically and economically.
He went on to say: “Indeed, numerous statistics and studies have shown –particularly in the Arab region- the inability of various peoples to catch up with the rate of development and the widening gap between societies which can indirectly pose a threat of a clash of civilizations. In parallel, as societies are transformed to a knowledge-based economy, many countries still suffer from ignorance and lack the fundamentals of a dignified life.”
Hamada closed by stating: “I hope that your society enjoys a fruitful meeting. I look forward –on behalf of all those working in the economic field- to see decisions issued by your general assembly to enhance and bless the efforts for growth.”
