22 Jun 2003
AMMAN- A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed today between the Ministry of Pedagogy and Education, the World Links Organization and the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization at the ministry, for offering the World Links program for professional development for teachers in Jordan.

The MoU and its program –which was signed by the Minister of Pedagogy and Education Dr. Khaled Touqan- along with representatives of the two establishments- aims to train 540 teachers during one year utilizing the “World Links Jordanian Educational Program”. It is expected that those teachers who complete training will transfer the knowledge they gain to their students and other teachers.

According to the program’s organizers, its purpose is to provide both secondary schools (grades 9-12) and the ministry with sustainable solutions for necessary technologies, skills and educational sources to prepare students and teachers to enter the information age.

Dr. Touqan said after signing the MoU that the program includes the translation of four stages of the World Links Program for Teachers’ Professional Development to the Arabic language, formulating it such that it is appropriate with the educational context of Jordan, and includes enabling teachers to integrate information technologies and communications in their educational practices. This is to be achieved by holding professional development workshops for 540 teachers at least from 110 secondary schools and the encouragement of curriculum-based participating projects that will direct teachers and students to effectively access high quality information.  The workshops will also deal with internet usage for participation and collaboration with other teachers and the development of their skills to become ‘information producers’.

On his part, the World Links representative presented the establishment of the World Links Organization and information on the countries that are implementing its educational programs, pointing out to the organization’s extensive experience in the field of IT and communications.

The signing of the MoU was attended by the General Manager of Training at the ministry, Abdul Kareem Alazzam, and the Manager of IT Administration Hussein Alzahrati.
