Seminar on Policies and Security Issues in Information Technology
29 Jun 2003NEW YORK – The UN Center for Training and Research held a seminar on June 27, 2003, on policies and security issues in information technology, at the UN headquarters in New York.
Mr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, Vice-Chair of the UN ICT Task Force delivered the seminar’s opening speech, and then distributed the certificates to the participating UN ambassadors and diplomats, amongst which were Arab officials.
The seminar researched national strategies and the frameworks of policies specific to process of developing information and communication technologies, and tying this in with the sovereignty of international law that is related to individual and communal rights in the computer age.
The focus in particular was on the legislative and governmental challenges facing policy-makers, specifically in relation to the rights of privacy, freedom of speech and globalization and offsetting that with cultural particulars and national variety.
The seminar also discussed the Chilean initiatives in the field of electronic government and providing services to citizens via the electronic network, in addition to educating the public on how to utilize these services while easing the process of economic growth.
Mr. Alvaro Diaze, Deputy of the Ministry of Economy in the Chilean government, presented the relevant challenges, accomplishments, partnerships and lessons-learned, and also talked about expanding national electronic strategies into regional strategies and projects.
