Seminar on Security Policies and Issues in Information Technology
22 Jul 2003The UN Institute for Training and Research recently convened a seminar on policies and security issues in information technology at the UN headquarters in New York.
Mr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, Vice-Chair of the United Nations Information and Communication Technologies Task Force (UN ICT TF), delivered the opening speech of the seminar and then distributed certificates among participating ambassadors and UN diplomats, both among which were Arab members.
The seminar addressed researching national strategies and framework of policies specific to simplifying the process of information technology and communications development, and their connection to the rule of international law related to the rights of individuals and societies in the computing age.
The seminar also addressed the legislative and governmental challenges facing policymakers in relation to rights of privacy, freedom of expression, freedom of communication and globalization in relation to cultural specifics and national variety.
The seminar also discussed the Chilean initiatives in the field of e-government and provision of services through the network, in addition to provision of services to citizens through the internet and educating them on how to benefit from the services while simplifying the economic growth process.
Mr. Alvaro Diaz, deputy of the Ministry of Economy in the Chilean government, presented the challenges, achievements, partnerships and lessons-learned, in addition to his talk on expanding national electronic strategies to regional strategies and projects.
