The council discussed the ICC activities of 2003 and adopted the activities of 2004, including the emphasis on multilateral regulations for global economy and further support of trade liberalization and international investment. Other 2004 activities adopted were related to enhancing the ICC as an organization in order to maximize its benefit and effectively utilize its special role in the sector of global business.

Mr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, Chairman of the ICC’s Commission on E-Business, Information Technologies and Telecoms, presented an ICC action plan to the delegations which will be forwarded to the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) convening in Geneva this week.

Mr. Abu-Ghazaleh praised the great support offered by the ICC on behalf of the business sector in the preparatory stages for the summit, and pointed to the results that will be reached in Geneva which may have a long-term effect on the way business and the internet interact in the future.

He added that “it is very important that we work actively during the summit to guarantee raising the voice of the business sector during these governmental deliberations. This is because the shape of future electronic business will be defined, and our interests in this field are quite clear.”
