19 Apr 2004AMMAN – Licensing Executives Society - Arab Countries has organized on Monday a workshop entitled “Intellectual Property Management” with the participation of IP experts from Syria and Jordan at Talal Abu-Ghazaleh International (TAGI) Campus.
Heinz Goddar, former president of LES International, which is a professional society engaged in the development, education and transfer of technology, provided the attendees with an overall introduction to IP management, IP licensing and the means through which IP protection should be applied.
“Through LES, we assist in creating a worldwide understanding of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) and how we should obtain and use these rights in a commercialization manner,” Goddar told ag-IP-news Agency.
He added that although the concept of IPRs is completely comprehended, mechanisms and processes to maintain commercial profits out of IP are still limited.
Goddar stressed that the significance of licensing should be recognized by all parties involved in IP field.
“Owners of patents and other IPRs particularly trade secrets and copyrights, should always consider making a better use of such titles by licensing out,” he stated.
Goddar on the other hand, called on enterprises interested in introducing new technologies to think of licensing in certain technology, “to avoid unnecessary double-developments which might cause unnecessary costs, compared with the usually available modest royalties to be observed in many fields of technology,” he explained.
