ASIP's Financial, Administrative Reports Ratified
25 Apr 2004AMMAN - The General Assembly of the Arab Society for Intellectual Property (ASIP) ratified during its annual meeting each of its financial and administrative reports of last year, as well as the estimated budget for the current year.
The meetings, attended by members from several Arab countries, were presided by Mr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, Head of the society's Board of Directors.
During the meeting, a number of important subjects were studied and agreed upon, most important of which was the establishment of a work mechanism to begin the execution of the Arab Certified IP Licensing Practitioner (ACIPLP), where the board formed a committee to adopt the final text for the program's curriculum. Moreover, a list of the names of lecturers, trainers and experts for teaching the program were revealed during the meeting.
The board agreed to sign cooperation agreements with a number of universities, colleges and special organizations to market the program and attract the largest number of students interested in obtaining the certification. As another executive step, the board decided to form a higher council for exams, consisting of a number of highly qualified experts in this field.
Moreover, an Arabic and English guide were published describing methods on how to become an IP expert and illustrating the necessary steps required to pursue the program certificate.
The board also decided on holding training programs in Arab countries that discuss IP-related subjects that can meet the needs of Arab countries in accordance with the new economic developments.
In respect of forums and conferences, the board studied the activities of the upcoming symposium to be held in Bahrain next October, and prepared for its participation and identified its speakers. The board decided to hold a meeting for this purpose in Manama and set a program to hold specialized conferences in several Arab countries.
The board also studied a cooperation plan with the Basel Center, to encourage Arab innovators, where a decision to form a committee was taken consisting of representatives from Basel, the Arab Knowledge Management Society (AKMS), Licensing Executive Society- Arab Countries (LES-AC) in addition to representatives from the industrial sectors and private companies to study and decide on the cooperation plan.
The board also studied steps to announce the Arab Intellectual Property Mediation and Arbitration Society, an affiliate of ASIP and revealed the prepared infrastructure, arbitration rules and the Society's guide.
The board also agreed on the formation of working committees to help in the execution of the Society's activities and programs. The committees as well as a project for a competition for students organized by the Society were also ratified during the meeting.
