Lebanon Hosts Forum on IPRs
05 May 2004BEIRUT – Lebanon is hosting in its capital Beirut an Intellectual Property (IP) week, organized by the Ministry of Economy and Trade in cooperation with USAID to support Lebanon's membership to the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
The discussion, which is taking place in the Economic and Social Council, will continue until the 7th of May. Participants include experts and businessmen from ministries, government institutions, the private sector particularly in the field of pharmaceuticals, food and IT as well as senior IP officials.
The week will witness a comprehensive forum on intellectual property rights (IPRs) that will deal with health, consumer protection, audio and visual recordings, copyright, IP awareness and IT programs.
Mr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, President of the Arab Society for Intellectual Property (ASIP) and Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) headed the forum in its first day which addressed IPRs and health.
Meanwhile, each of Mr. Marwan Hamada, the Lebanese Minster of Economy, Mr. Roger Nasnas, President of the Economic and Social Council and Mr. Vincent Battle, US Ambassador to Lebanon spoke at the opening session of the forum.
