'International Trademark Licensing' in Beirut
18 May 2004BEIRUT - The Licensing Executives Society - Arab Countries in cooperation with Talal Abu-Ghazaleh & Co. will organize a seminar entitled "International Trademark Licensing" June 1 at Gefinor Rotana Hotel in Beirut.
The seminar, held under the patronage of the Lebanese Minister of Economy and Trade Marwan Hamade, will focus on the importance of trademarks as essential elements of international commerce, and on the important role of licensing agreements, as they are a key factor to boost up the economy of developing countries.
Speakers will tackle the following issues: How can trademark be used against infringers; The legal and financial elements of license agreements; New trends in Lebanese and Arab franchising issues; Trademark protection concerns of franchisers; Trademark law in Lebanon; Recent court decisions on unfair competition, and the trademark and competition laws.
The seminar aims at developing efficiency and providing a wealth of knowledge to the business community, governmental and public bodies, lawyers, licensing consultants, academics, engineers and scientists on the importance of licensing and franchising, and their role in protecting trademarks.
The Society believes that similar activities and seminars will contribute in promoting the required changes in the Arab region, which are crucial to its development.
The key speakers at the seminar will be Professor Heinz Goddar, former president of LES International, Mohamed Alem – LES Arab Countries vice president, Leila Laila – Lebanese lawyer specializing in Franchising, Nader Obeid – head of Litigation, Intellectual Property & Technology Transfer Department at Alem Law Firm and Ruba Qalyoubi – LES Arab Countries Board Member.
