26 Mar 2004

Geneva, February 26-27, 2004

Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAGO) has recently participated in the International Communication Union (ITU) workshop on Internet Governance, which was held at the ITU headquarters in Geneva February 26-27, 2004.

Representing Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAGO), an ITU Sector member, Mr. Charles Shaban, who is also a Director at the MINC (Multilingual Internet Names Consortium) Board, took part in the workshop. Mr. Shaban tackled some issues related to Multilingual Domain Names.

The workshop objective was to contribute to the ITU's process, preparing its input and position vis-à-vis the United Nations Working Group to be established on Internet governance. The formation of this group results from the Declaration of Principles and Action Plan adopted on December 12, 2003, at the first phase of the World Summit on the Information Society.

The workshop provided a forum for experts to exchange views and make analytical studies on definitions, viewpoints, and visions concerning Internet governance from several aspects, including legal, technological, administrative, and commercial issues.

All results and recommendations from the workshop will be compiled into a report and communicated to the entire ITU membership. After that, the report will be submitted to the appropriate ITU decision-making bodies for their further consideration.
