AMMAN – The Director General of the Income and Sales Tax Department, Iyad Al-Qudat, revealed that tax collections during the first four months of the current year grew by 30%, thanks to the promotional discounts offered to tax payers, with tax collections varying from one service sector to another.

These comments were delivered at a press conference held yesterday on the sidelines of the department's official announcement of attaining the ISO 9001:2000 certification from the International Standard Organization (ISO).

Meanwhile, Al Qudat said that the unification of tax percentages on economic sectors requires both the amendment of tax laws and legislations as well as the conduction of a specialized legislative study.

He also revealed that the department will be altering all its transactions soon whereby it plans to archive all its transactions electronically.

On the departments' acquirement of the ISO 9001:2000 certification, Al Qudat remarked that the department aims to develop its procedures soon and review them periodically to offer quality services that agree with the modern-day developments of the world.

Al-Qudat confirmed that the department has begun launching e-government services at the start of the year, enabling taxpayers to access their personal statements, amend them, review their tax status on the internet and pay their dues electronically, noting that the number of taxpayers who joined these services have reached 12,000.
He noted that Det Norske Veritas (DNV) has made the initial auditing procedure as well as a study on the quality management system of the department to investigate the extent of its compliance with the ISO 9001:2000 regulations by implementing a field audit that included the review of the application systems to verify the appropriateness of the department's procedures in comparison to the requirements of international specifications, adding that the department has  collaborated with Abu-Ghazaleh & Co. Consulting (AGCON) to develop and apply the quality management system.
