JISM Employees Undergo IP Training Course

AMMAN - Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) is holding a three-day training course entitled “Intellectual Property Protection” which targets Jordan Institution for Standards and Metrology (JISM) employees, at the Institution’s headquarters in Amman March 5-7, 2006.
AGIP Legal Consultant Dr. Sakhr Khasawneh provided the participants on the first day with an overall introduction to the concept and development of intellectual property (IP) protection.
“I have also underlined some of the Jordanian laws related to IP and their association with the Customs Department and JISM work,” Khasawneh told ag-IP-news Agency.
In his second paper, he will be explaining the practical measures to detect products that infringe on original trademarks.
“This discussion will help JISM’s employees in fighting fake and counterfeit products and in writing legal reports concerning the confiscated products.”
The main themes to be highlighted in Khasawneh’s paper are as follows:
- General indications that a product is counterfeited.
- Places that manufacture and store counterfeited products.
- Domains of international cooperation between the countries to fight illegal commerce and counterfeited products.
- Mechanisms of detecting counterfeited products, writing reports, investigating and referring cases to the concerned courts.
Meanwhile, discussions in the second day focused on trademark and was presented by AGIP Legal Consultant Ala’ Musleh. The lecturer updated the employees on the latest information regarding trademarks and infringement, and how to detect fake products.
In addition, a detailed introduction concerning the cooperation between AGIP and JISM will be also presented.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed last November between the Institution and AGIP, which aims at enhancing and developing methods and mechanisms formulated to protect consumers and prevent commercial fraud.
