Omans Trademark Office Speeds up Registration Formalities

01 Nov 2006
MUSCAT - In order to provide services more efficiently and in a more customer-friendly manner, the Omani Trademark Office has recently mobilized substantial efforts to speed up and simplify the trademark registration formalities, a press release by Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) stated.

The new procedures specifically focus on minimizing the time frame needed to register a trademark. Examination reports related to newly-filed trademark applications are now issued within one month as of the filing date. Afterward, publication in the Official Gazette will take place within four months and, in the absence of an opposition or an office action, the registration certificate will be issued within one year as of the filing date.

Formerly, the time frame for a trademark to be registered in Oman used to range between 4-6 years.

AGIP encourages its clients to submit the following two documents, a legalized Power of Attorney and a certified copy of the commercial registration/incorporation certificate, upon filing or immediately afterward in order to insure a smooth registration process.
