Princess Sumaya Inaugurates 2nd Innovation Promotion & Technology Commercialization Conference
15 Nov 2006AMMAN – The Second Innovation Promotion and Technology Commercialization Conference kicked off on Wednesday under the patronage of HRH Princess Sumaya bint Al Hassan, head of the Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT).
The two-day conference, held November 15-16, 2006 at PSUT premises, offers practical steps to inventors to create and protect intellectual assets, guide them on how to easily value their Intellectual Property (IP) and steer them towards commercializing their inventions.
In addition, the event addresses IP component in writing a winning business plan and providing networking opportunities to participants.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Princess Sumaya said that creating national intellectual wealth requires protection and continuous support.
"Building on this vision, the conference incorporates the idea of enabling intellectuals and researchers of protecting their intellectual output, hence facilitating the creation of high return investments,” she said.
"Holding this conference today demonstrates our commitment and desire to push these efforts further and further until our national objectives are met," she added.
Princess Sumaya stated "we come from a culture that respects innovators and protects their rights in exploiting what rightfully belongs to them."
Speaking to ag-IP-news Agency, HRH Princess Sumaya stressed on the role of private sector in protecting creativity.
“The significant efforts exerted by Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) are highly appreciated particularly in making this conference a big success as well as contributing in the protection of Intellectual Property in Jordan and the Arab region,” Princess Sumaya told ag-IP-new Agency.
She added that the Conference aims at increasing the awareness of the researchers and innovators about the economical value of their intellectual assets.
The major components of this event were discussed by means of presentations, case studies, and panels. The Conference highlighted the importance of enriching the academics’ knowledge of IP.
Researchers, innovators, technoprenuers, technological driven firms, post-graduate students, related academics, supporting agencies and related governmental institutions attended the event.
The Second Conference on Technology Commercialization is organized by the Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship (QRCE), and it is part of the Technology Commercialization Program (TCP) which falls under the umbrella of the QRCE.
