Under the patronage of HE Senator Abu-Ghazaleh ... Jubilee School Organizes Award Ceremony of the 8th Arab Students Competition

AMMAN --- June 8, 2011 --- Under the patronage of HE Senator Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, founder and CEO of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAG-Org), with the presence of Ms. Hana Shahin, executive director in King Hussein Foundation (KHF), and a large number of interested people in educational and technical fields, Jubilee School affiliated with KHF organized on June 2, 2011 the official award ceremony of the Eighth annual Arab Student Competition on “Websites Design and Development”. The Competition was recently concluded with the participation of 85 students from public and private schools and institutions in addition to distinguished schools and educational centers from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Bahrain, Syria, Lebanon and Iraq.
The participating websites in this year’s competition focused on the topics of environment, childhood, states and capitals, contemporary university majors, labor market, art and life.
The participating websites were judged and evaluated by a committee that comprised specialists from both public and private academic institutions, universities, ministries and pioneer technological companies, based on nine international standards to ensure fairness and transparency.
In his opening speech, HE Senator Abu-Ghazaleh stressed the importance of school role in producing a generation specialized in IT field to serve community stating that “in consideration of such significance in the educational process, we will launch during this month the ICT project in education in partnership with UNESCO. We have already implemented the electronic society system at Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Graduate School of Business (TAGSB).”
HE Senator Abu-Ghazaleh also stressed TAG-Org’s focus on the youth being the drive of creativity in the era of knowledge, adding that TAG-Org seeks to launch TAG-Pedia to enrich the Arab Internet content through the team work of students enrolled in Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Knowledge Society (TAG-Knowledge).
HE Senator Abu-Ghazaleh pointed out that the production of TAGITOP, the top of the line laptop capabilities with notebook probabilities, is an at-cost contribution to the society, especially to school and university students and awarded “TAGITOP” to the winners.
Moreover, HE Senator Abu-Ghazaleh explained that this competition has proved the importance of website design with regard to development, education, content and technical aspects.
“As an initiative to prepare the appropriate environment to students in terms of providing them with Internet, training and preparation for the labor market, we established TAG-Knowledge, the members of which reached 21 thousands from university students. TAG-Org websites amounted to 60, and the number exceeds 10 million visitors annually.”
In conclusion of his speech, HE Senator Abu-Ghazaleh advised the students to take into account the credibility and respect of intellectual property rights in designing and developing websites. HE also thanked TAG-Org’s representative in the competition Mr. Ramez Quneibi, web development department manager, being one of the judges for the second consecutive year.
HE Senator Abu-Ghazaleh also recommended the establishment of a web-based society for web designers and developers titled “Arab Website Experts” in order to communicate, share experiences, raise awareness and develop competencies, where any interested party in web design and development can join to serve knowledge in the Arab world. Moreover, he declared his willingness to sponsor such a project.
Ms. Dima Zuaiter, head of the Competition’s organizing committee, stressed the significance of this competition in disseminating the concepts of technological education in schools, and exploring new horizons of creativity and innovation. She pointed out the role played by such competitions and technological activities in nurturing and investing in the minds of talented and creative students as response to the visions and instructions of His Majesty King Abdullah II Bin Al Hussein, which dictate the cultivating talents for they are the future foundations and prepare them to enter the digital era of knowledge confidently in a manner that copes with the advanced world trends.
She also asserted the importance of focusing on the use of ICT tools in schools and educational programs as well as utilizing the Internet services to enrich the Arab web content and disseminate it locally, regionally and internationally.
On behalf of the panel, Dr. Khaled Qwasmi, professor of Al Israa University IT faculty, talked about the significance of this competition in shaping students’ talents and the need to follow up such talents, beyond the school borders, to develop and enhance them. He also appraised the participating students from Jordan and other Arab countries.
At the end of the ceremony, HE Senator Abu-Ghazaleh honored the institutions supporting the competition, members of the panel, winner students and participants in the competition. HE Senator Abu-Ghazaleh reviewed closely the winning works while the Jubilee School’s headmistress Ms. Suha Joaneh, presented an honorary shield to HE Senator Abu-Ghazaleh.
It is worth mentioning that the Jubilee School’s philosophy is based on providing educational opportunities that are consistent with students’ tendencies and capacities. It also concentrates on the use of modern ICT tools in its curriculum in order to develop the e-learning with the view of utilizing students’ talents, creations and self initiatives in creating electronic programs that can be developed and used in the framework of linking the school with the local community. The School became a role model in this field locally and regionally.
