INFORMATION MINISTER UNDERLINES BAHRAINS KEENNESS ON COPYRIGHT PROTECTION

MANAMA, MAR. 27, (BNA) -- BAHRAIN MADE GIANT STRIDES IN THE PROTECTION OF COPYRIGHT AND NEIGHBORING RIGHTS AND IS STRIVING TO DEVELOP ITS PERTAINING LEGISLATION TO MAKE THEM COVER ALL FACETS OF THE FIELD AND BE CONGRUOUS WITH INTERNATIONAL LAWS IN THIS REGARD, INFORMATION MINISTER DR. MOHAMMED BIN ABDULGHAFFAR SAID TODAY.
HE MADE HIS REMARKS DURING THE CONCLUDING CEREMONY OF THE COPYRIGHT AND NEIGHBOURING RIGHTS COURSE HELD BY THE INFORMATION MINISTRY IN COOPERATION WITH THE WORLD INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY ORGANIZATION (WIPO) AND ARAB SOCIETY FOR INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY (ASIP). DR. ABDULGHAFFAR EXPRESSED HOPE THAT ARAB GOVERNMENTS IN GENERAL AND GCC ONES IN PARTICULAR WOULD FOCUS THEIR ATTENTION ON THE PROTECTION OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS AND COORDINATE TO REMEDY ANY SHORTCOMINGS IN THE FIELD. ON HIS PART, HEAD OF ASIP TALAL ABU GHAZALEH SAID THE COURSE WAS AN EXAMPLE OF THE DISTINGUISHED PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN BAHRAINI INFORMATION MINISTRY AND ASIP, EXPRESSING HOPE THE COURSE WOULD BE THE THRESHOLD FOR A SERIES OF FUTURE COURSES AND SEMINARS THAT RAISE AWARENESS OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS. ON HER PART, WIPOS ARAB BUREAU DIRECTOR NAHLA HAIDAR EXPRESSED APPRECIATION OF BAHRAIN GOVERNMENTS EFFORTS TO MAINTAIN CONTINUOUS COOPERATION WITH WIPO REGARDING THE PROTECTION OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS, CALLING FOR MORE COOPERATION TO BOOST THE NATIONAL ECONOMY WHILE RAISING AWARENESS OF THE NEED TO PROTECT INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY. THE COURSE, IN WHICH 17 TRAINEES FROM GCC COUNTRIES SPECIALIZED IN INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AFFAIRS TOOK PART, IS THE FIRST VOCATIONAL COURSE TAUGHT IN ARABIC AND ORGANIZED IN THE GULF IN THE PERIOD FROM MARCH 17 TO 27 BY A TEAM OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY EXPERTS FROM WIPO AND ASIP.
