AGIP Tackles IP Issues with Several Organizations in Pakistan
05 Jun 2007KARACHI - In another example of how Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) is continuing to build bridges with local and international organizations involved with Intellectual Property (IP), AGIP India office Manager Khalid Al-Khalidi and AGIP Pakistan office Manager Aamir Khan made special visits on June 5, 2007, to a number of organizations in Pakistan.
The first visit was made to the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI), where Al-Khalidi and Khan met with OICCI Secretary-General Adnan Afridi, Executive Director Riaz Hussain and Deputy Secretary Owais Hasan.
The parties discussed potential mutual cooperation between AGIP and OICCI in raising awareness of the importance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) and strengthening the IP system in Pakistan.
During the visit, Afridi briefed Al-Khalidi and Khan on the OICCI’s functions and services, stressing that the Chamber's main function is to promote and protect commercial, industrial and financial interests of foreign investors engaged in commerce and industry in Pakistan.
Meanwhile and concerning IPRs protection, Afridi pointed out that the OICCI has designated a special committee to discuss issues and problems related to the patent system and data protection in Pakistan.
Al-Khalidi and Khan also exchanged views with OICCI’s executives and emphasized the importance of involving policy-makers in the efforts exerted to promote the creation, use and protection of IPRs.
In the same context, Al-Khalidi and Khan visited the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC)/Pakistan, where they met with ICC Chair Tariq M. Rangoonwala and discussed the latest developments in the IP field.
“Expressing his full support and future assistance to AGIP in Pakistan, Rangoonwala applauded the contribution of AGIP’s Chairman and CEO, Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, in the ICC, and welcomed AGIP to become a member of ICC Pakistan,” Al-Khalidi said.
Al-Khalidi added that AGIP will co-chair the ICC Committee on IP in Pakistan.
The last visit was paid to Pakistan's Institute of Corporate Governance (PICG), where Al-Khalidi and Khan met with PICG President and CEO Zahid Zaheer and discussed a range of issues related to IPRs and their enforcement.
On behalf of AGIP, Al-Khalidi and Khan extended full support, cooperation and assistance to the PICG on any matter related to the protection and development of IPRs in Pakistan.
