ISO Technical Committee # 176/SC2 convenes it 32nd meeting in Finland
10 Jun 2007At the invitation of the Finnish Standards Association (SFS), the meetings of the second subcommittee of ISO technical committee 176 (which is considered the most important ISO committee) are being convened in Helsinki between June 10-16, 2007. The meeting took place with the participation of over 120 quality experts from 45 countries and international professional organizations. AKMS representative Khaled Abu-Osbeh, executive director at Talal Abu-Ghazaleh & Co. Consulting, is participating in these meetings, which will address important issues related to the new release of ISO standards 9001 and 9004.
The topic at hand deals with a review and modification of the current standard, in order to be re-issued no later than 2009. The meetings will also discuss sensitive items related to the credibility of ISO certificate 9001:2000 in addressing its main purpose.
It is expected that the meetings will result in issuing numerous recommendations related to both the parties that issue the certificate and those companies that receive it or desire so, which will increase the certificate’s credibility.
The participation of the AKMS representative is significant in order to relay the point of view of the business sector in the Arab region, through the process of reissuing the specification. Further, the importance lies in the transfer of relevant information quickly in order to be utilized by Arab institutions along with international companies at the same time.
Notably, there are over 800,000 companies that have attained the ISO 9001:2000 certificate worldwide, including 5500 Arab companies. All these companies are awaiting the results of these meetings to understand what the future of the specification is and what procedures must be taken in order to maintain this certificate they previously obtained.
Qatar will be hosting the next meeting of the 176 committee, whereas the UAE will host the general ISO meeting, convened for the first time in the Arab region.
