Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP), the leading IP firm in the Middle East, signed on July 25, 2007, an agreement with DotAsia Organization, the Sponsoring Organization and Registry Operator for the .ASIA Sponsored Generic Top-Level Domain, in Hong Kong.
According to the agreement, AGIP will be the exclusive Verification Agent for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region for applicants during the Sunrise and Landrush Periods for launching the new .ASIA domain.
Commenting on this partnership, Assistant Executive Director of AGIP, Bilal Beiram, said, “AGIP looks forward to closely working with DotAsia to allow for an expedient, accurate and robust verification process for all .ASIA Sunrise applications.”
According to DotAsia, a Verification Agent is generally tasked to make a decision on whether an application for a domain has met the requirements based on the .ASIA Sunrise policies.
“A Verification Agent will assess the conformity of an application to the Sunrise policies based on the information submitted,” Beiram, who also represents the Business Constituency at the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) Council, added.
The .ASIA Sunrise policies are intended to provide an equitable, orderly, transparent and logical process for the launching of the .ASIA domain, which take into consideration the prior rights of stakeholders in the community. The Sunrise period will be divided into three phases, as follows:
