IASCA’s Annual Meeting Held in Doha
22 Oct 2013 DOHA------October 22, 2013------ The International Arab Society of Certified Accountants (IASCA) held its annual meeting for the first time in Doha since its establishment in 1984, in the presence of representatives of a number of Arab countries. The meeting, chaired by HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, IASCA founder and chairman of the Board of Directors tackled several key issues including the new name of the Society to reflect its international standing. It was formerly known as the Arab Society for Certified Accountants.
The meeting also discussed other issues related to accounting and accountants in the Arab world, where the Board of Directors decided to launch an International Financial Reporting Standards’ Expert Certificate, the first qualification of its kind in the Arab world that entitles its holders to IFRS works. The new certificate adds to a series of other professional certificates issued by IASCA including an International Arab Certified Accountant, International Arab Administrative Certified Accountants and the Islamic Financing Certificates.
With the new certificate, IASCA bridges another gap between the Arab world and other nations in the application of international accounting standards.
To mark its 30th anniversary, the Board of IASCA decided to hold an international professional conference in 2015, bringing together professionals and economists from all over the world.
In addition, the Board decided to enter into a cooperative agreement with the Arab League’s Academy for Training and Education to deliver joint training courses in all Arab countries, with the aim of qualifying more Arab professionals in the field.
The Society’s Assembly also decided to approach authorities in charge in Arab governments for the application of international accounting standards in the public sector given the important role of such standards in enhancing transparency and professionalism.
